Unlike most other cephalopods, the pearly nautilus, Nautilus pompilius, hunts slowly, since its blunt, heavy shell prevents it from swimming swiftly through the water in pursuit of prey. Its preferred diet consists of slow-moving, bottom-dwelling crustaceans such as crabs and shrimps.
