Midwife toad, small European amphibian with dull-grey, warty skin. The male wraps the fertilized eggs, which are arranged in strings, around his back legs. After about three weeks the male enters water and the young emerge from the egg cases. Length: to 5cm. Family Discoglossidae; species Alytes obstetricans. |
