Cyprus, Crete and Sardinia were populated very early on by Neolithic peoples
from the Levant, who brought their domestic animals with them. The present-day
feral mammals of these islands, such as the Cretan Wild Goat and the Mouflon,
are therefore living fossils, reperesenting the very earliest domestic
stock little changed from their primitive state.
