Where's Its Cousin?
The finless porpoise, a cousin of the finless dolphin, or baiji, is shown here in an aquarium. The finless porpoise has proven it can survive in China's mighty but polluted and traffic-choked Yangtze river. Scientists estimate only 2,000 of the small dark grey mammals survive in the wild. But hopes are fading fast that the baiji has disappeared from the same waters.
