Little owl (Athene noctua)
The little owl, just 23cm long, hunts both at dawn and dusk. The owl's flight is noiseless, allowing the bird to detect tiny sounds made by its prey and to drop onto the victim without warning. To accomplish this, owls’ wings have evolved into a rounded shape, often with a frayed fringe of feathers round the edges to prevent the swoosh of the feathers as the birds fly. |
