English: Bald Eagle Haliaeetus leucocephalus, Robert Ridgway, Hawks and Owls, US Department of Agriculture, 1893. Robert Ridgway, an ornithologist and Curator of Birds at the Smithsonian Institution from 1874 until 1929, authored and illustrated many books and articles on North American birds, along with works emphasizing regional birds, including the birds of his native Illinois.
