Achatina achatina are the land snails capable to grow the largest shells in the world (in length). They are called tigers as they have stripes resembling the ones on tigers. They may possess between 7-8 whorls and the shell is often broadly ovate. The body of the animal is silver-brown in colour although albino morphs may exist. They are a widely sought after species, for their size, distinct markings. They are considered more difficult to breed than other African snails. |
