The king cobra of Asia is the longest venomous snake in the world, growing to well over 16 feet. When it rears up with its hood spread, ready to strike, it presents a terrifying spectacle. The female king cobra lays her eggs in a nest of leaves and rotting vegetation; she then covers them and, unusually for snakes, curls up on top to protect them from predators. |
