Commonly found and widely distributed throughout the central United States, the striped bark scorpion (Centruroides vittatus) is a species of scorpion that people in the U.S. most come across with thousands stung yearly. It has been noted to frequent warm areas under rocks, debris, buildings, houses, etc. The striped bark scorpion is distinguished by its yellowish body, black bands or stripes along its back, and a dark triangle marked on its head. As a nocturnal predator and opportunistic cannibal, its colouration provides camouflage within its environment to prey on soft-bodied insects as well as smaller-sized scorpions. |
