The spiral tentacled Christmas tree worm, Spirobranchus giganteus, is a particularly striking sedentary polychaetefan worm. Many annelids have an iron-porphyrin respiratory pigment in their blood that colours their bodies green. However, the tentacles of the Christmas tree worm contain a strong blue pigment that masks the colour of its blood.
