Black stilt stamp
Black stilt stamp
The black stilt or kaki was once widespread
around New Zealand, but now only small numbers survive in the Mackenzie Basin, South
Canterbury. Introduced predators and reduction of habitat have been the main cause
of their decline. The species is commemorated here in a postage stamp issued in 2000
and designed by wildlife artist Paul Martinson.
