Pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa)
During the day, pine processionary moth larvae nest together in silken webs. At night, they set off in a long line to look for food. The head caterpillar spins a silken thread for the others to follow. Each caterpillar branches off to eat but returns to its nest guided by a thread of silk. |
