The kit fox inhabits the cold deserts of North America, where it makes long night-time forays, sometimes travelling several kilometres in search of prey. It feeds largely on rodents such as kangaroo rats, as well as rabbits and birds. Family groups of males, females and cubs live in complex dens with many separate entrances. Kit foxes often establish several dens in their territories, and move from one to another at different times of the year. |
