Takin, heavy goat-like mammal of the forests of the Himalayan foothills and the mountains of central China. It has a thick, shaggy brownish coat and backward-pointing horns. It feeds primarily on bamboo shoots and other plants. Height: to 1m at shoulder. Family Bovidae; species Budorcas taxicolor. |
