Aethopyga mystacalis (Javan sunbird, scarlet sunbird)
The Javan sunbird or scarlet sunbird (Aethopyga mystacalis), is a delightful bird species found in the family Nectariniidae. The Javan sunbird is endemic to the islands of Java and Bali, Indonesia. It thrives in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests as well as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. While both sexes of the Javan sunbirds resemble the Crimson Sunbird, there’s a key distinction. The Javan sunbird boasts a bright white belly and sides, setting it apart from its crimson counterpart.
