These large storks have a height of up to 3 feet, a wingspan of up to 4 feet, and weigh 7 to 8 pounds. A unique characteristic is the reddish orange orbital skin below the eye and a creamy white iris. The tail is forked, and they have long broad wings. This bird’s long, pointed beak turns blue-grey at maturity. The beak is adapted for grabbing prey. They have long legs for walking and wading.
