Kalij pheasant (Lophura leucomelanos)
The kalij pheasant is a species of the Himalayan foothills where it occurs in forests and thickets. Closely related to the silver pheasant (Lophura nycthemera), they can hybridize. Nine subspecies are recognized. The nominate race has been introduced into Hawaii in 1962, and its population is increasing regularly. |
