Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis)
The Indian rhinoceros lives in wet, swampy places, where it often wallows in mud. When dried, the mud covering may keep biting flies at bay. The rhino has a flexible, prehensile upper lip, with which it grabs tall vegetation when it is browsing. Indian rhinos use their horns as offensive weapons, charging head-down at intruders. |
