Birding (safely) in N-Colombia
From Ca???averal it is a 40 minute walk on a white sand trail to Arecifes with good birding.
At the campgrounds (N 11???18,38'; W 73???58,7') close to the
beach you can hang your hammock (or rent one) between the palms or put up your tent.
Cabins are around 15 US$ or 5 US$ if you share one with others.
There are 4 campgrounds and I recommend the last one (Bukari), which is quieter.
There are plenty of foodstalls, where you can get good food
(Remember: You can no longer pay with credit card).
Don't forget to bring a warm blanket or sleeping bag. There is a cool sea breeze,
which makes it cold at night.
Best birding is along the main road between the entrance and Ca???averal,
the trail between Ca???averal and Arecifes and the trail that goes to
Pueblito (N 11???18,38'; W 73???58,7') , a pre-colombian village. Along this trail, one
might see Blue-billed Curassows (Crax alberti).
There is another trail that goes to the last beaches (nudist beach). These are also
good for birds (no, not only these birds!). From here there is also a trail that goes
to Pueblito. It is nearly only used for going up to Pueblito by horse. |
