| This is completely real. "Mike" was meant for the stew pot, but totally freaked the owners when it got up and began running around as if it still had a head. Chickens have very simplified brains, if you cut the head in such a way so that the stem remains intact, it will not immediately die. "Mike" was far from being unusual for living, it is the amount of time that is the truly amazing part of the tale. It is believed that the bird was given injections of sugar water to maintain some amount of nutrition and hydration levels. Today, the owner would be arrested, not for cutting the head off, as the chicken is a food animal, but for allowing it to suffer the way that they did. Thank heavens the world has so changed. |
