Birds from El Paso Birdpark - turaco1.jpg
A turaco, possibly a Green Turaco (Tauraco persa)
but could be a different species.
Any suggestions?

If this bird were in southern Africa, it would be called a Lourie. In fact, I
just looked it up in my book and it looks very much like a Livingstone's
Lourie. There is a cousin, the Grey Lourie which is well known there as the
"Go-away Bird" because of it's alarm call (go-way, go-way).
Hope this helps,

Thanks. You are probably right.
What made me hesitate was the lack of white
behind the eyes and on the top of the crest. There should have
been a white line below and after the eye.
In the Checklist of the Birds of the world the Livingstone and Knysna
Lourie are listed as subspecies of the Green Turaco.
As far as I had pictures other species were more different
from the bird on my picture.
And Lourie is the south african name for Turaco.
I did see and hear the Grey Lourie in South Africa in 1997,
and did made some photo's, though not top quality.
WIll post them some day.
