Brush Cuckoo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Order: Cuculiformes
Family: Cuculidae
[Photo] Brush Cuckoo (Cacomantis variolosus), Namadji National Park, Australia. "Agggh this was a splendid sighting, close, quite uncommon, and sustained. But I don't have a single properly focused shot because the Brush Cuckoo is such a bland bird with few clear delineations for the camera to focus on. So it inevitable focuses on the branch behind or in front, no matter how carefully I aim the focus point. Every shot I took is nicely focused on a nearby branch -- this is the best of a poor lot. But it was wonderful to see a Brush Cuckoo so close and for such a long time." Source: Flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/ozjulian/1802050909/). Date: Taken on October 27, 2007. The Brush Cuckoo, Cacomantis variolosus, is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, the Cuculiformes, which also includes the roadrunners, the anis, and the Hoatzin.
The Brush Cuckoo is native to the east coast of Australia and northern New Guinea. It is grey-brown with a buff breast and its call is very familiar of the Australian bush.
